OUR EMPTY BOWLS ONGOING EVENT UNTIL FALL

Our throwing days were February 22nd and 23rd with trimming done on the 24th

All days were 10 am to 2 pm, but some stayed later.

If you didn't make these dates and want to still make some bowls on your own in your own studio that would be great, too.  You can make them after this date, too, all the way up to Sept 15th.  Simply make sure that the clay you are throwing with is Cone 10 compatible if you want MCC to glaze and fire them for you.  You certainly can fire and glaze them yourself and donate them, too.  If you do, mark the bottom of your bowls with “MTB - CWG”.  The bowls should hold 12- 16oz (1 1/2 cups to 2 cups) and should be at least 7” x 3” when glaze fired .   Please, no coiled bowls are allowed, but you can hand build using slabs.

For those who do not know what Empty Bowls is all about here is an explanation:  "Empty Bowls"  is an international project to fight hunger, personalized by artists and art organizations on a community level.  Participating artists and groups create and donate bowls, then serve a simple meal using those bowls.  Guests choose a bowl to use that day and to keep as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.  In exchange for the meal and the bowl, guests contribute a suggested minimum donation or more, if desired.  One hundred percent of each meal's proceeds are devoted to local hunger-fighting organizations, such as food banks or soup kitchens or to national or international charitable groups.

The Guild has been a part of this fight by throwing bowls and donating them for over 27 yrs. Some of the places we have donated to are: WI, Oakton Community College,  Harvard High School and last year, our own, McHenry County College.

Last year we donated our bowls to McHenry County College and, this year, they are going to run the Empty Bowl Project in conjunction with their culinary department, again, in hopes of starting a Food Bank at the college. We ended up last year as the only group who provided bowls for this event everyone else backed out on them we made approximately 240 bowls.   Thank you everyone who helped out with this event last year I was very proud of our Guild Members . Let's make it another good year.
